Characterization of Service Times Burstiness of IEEE 802.11 DCF

چکیده
First order metrics (throughput, average delay) of the IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC protocol have been extensively analyzed. The service process of the same protocol has not received the same attention, although it is known that it might be bursty. We develop a simple and accurate Markov model that allows a complete characterization of the service process of an 802.11 BSS. A major result of simulations is that correlation between consecutive service times is negligible, hence the service proces can be safely described as a renewal process. The analytic mode highlights that service burstiness lies essentially in the doubling of the contention window after a collision up to very large values The trade-off between average throughput and service burstines is obtained from the model. An Analytical Approach to Characterize the Service Process and the Tradeoff between Throughput and Service Time Burstiness in IEEE 802.11 DCF
We derive a characterization of the probability distribution of the service time process in a saturated IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN under DCF MAC protocol, both from the point of view of a single station and of the system as a whole. Our service time distribution model is then exploited to highlight the burstiness of service times and its dependence on the maximum value of the IEEE 802.11 contenti...
متن کاملAnalysis of the IEEE 802.11 DCF with Service Differentiation Support in Non-saturation Conditions
Although the performance analysis of the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) in saturation state has been extensively studied in the literature, little work is present on performance analysis in non-saturation state. In this paper, a simple model is proposed to analyze the performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF with service differentiation support in non-saturation states, which helps t...
متن کاملProviding Quality of Service in the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function
Wireless networks are becoming more and more common in today’s networking environment. One of the earliest of the IEEE standards for wireless networks is the IEEE 802.11 standard. Most communications in an 802.11 network use the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). Unfortunately, the 802.11 DCF was not designed with Quality of Service (QoS) in mind. However, as more and more applications te...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation aodv, dymo, olsr and zrpad hoc routing protocol for ieee 802.11 mac and 802.11 dcf in vanet using qualnet
In VANET high speed is the real characteristics which leads to frequent breakdown, interference etc. Therefore Performance of adhoc routing protocols is helpful to improve the Quality of Service (QOS). In this paper we studied various adhoc routing protocols, Reactive, Proactive & Hybrid, taking in to consideration parameters like speed, altitude, mobility etc in real VANET scenario. The AODV a...
متن کاملService Differentiation of IEEE 802.11e
The type of the applications for which Internet is being used has changed over the years. Multimedia applications, Real-time applications and Game playing require Quality of service. IEEE has proposed IEEE 802.11e, a quality of service extension to the wireless LAN standard IEEE 802.11. In this paper service differentiation ability of 802.11e is evaluated. Identical traffic is considered for al...
